Will Heavenly Father Exalt and Glorify Us?

President Uchtdorf: “Live the Gospel Joyful,” 28 SEPTEMBER 2014; “Trust in the saving power of Jesus Christ and keep His laws and commandments, said President Dieter F. Uchtdorf to Latter-day Saint women, young women, and girls on September 27…pondering the truth that they are children of heavenly parents will fill Church members with a sense of origin, purpose, and destiny…

“It is good to remember that you are always a child of God,” he said…if Church members truly believe the great mission of their Heavenly Father is to exalt and glorify His children and that He knows best how to do it, doesn’t it make sense for them to embrace and follow His commandments…once people understand the true nature of God and His commandments, they will also better understand themselves and the divine purpose of their existence.”

Romans 8:2-4; “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”

1 John 5:3; “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.”

There are five items to take note of in the speech Mr. Uchtdorf delivered last September so let’s take a quick look at them to determine if they line up with the word of God!

1. For every true believer obedience and following the commandments of God are manifestations of what’s already in the believer’s heart. We want to please our Lord and follow Him, even to Jerusalem when He calls upon us, but our works don’t save us. As Paul said, Jesus made us free from the law of sin and death.

2. Mr. Uchtdorf called on Mormons to believe in the saving power of Christ, but we’re wondering what power his Christ has if they’re mandated to perform works for salvation?

3. Jesus clearly explained to Nicodemus the process of how we become children of God (John 3:1-13) and nowhere in His explanation did He imply it was by works. We become children of God when we’re born again.

4. The mission of the Heavenly Father isn’t to exalt and glorify mankind! They have this all backwards! God is exalted, and God is glorified, not us. 1 Peter 5:6 says ‘Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time’, but pay close attention to the word ‘exalt’.

In the Greek this word is hypsoō and it means to lift up. It comes from the root word hypsos which means to highly exalt. God will lift us up in due time, but we’ll never become a god or goddess.

5. Lastly, why in the world would it be okay to think that God will glorify us? Do you glorify anything you’ve made?
