Is Mormon History Really An Open Book?

The Associated Press, Interview with Gordon B. Hinckley, December 25, 2005; “Well, we have nothing to hide. Our history is an open book. They may find what they are looking for, but the fact is the history of the church is clear and open and leads to faith and strength and virtues.” – President Gordon B. Hinckley

Luke 8:17; “For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.”

The Mormon Church likes to make grandiose statements about themselves, but when the rubber meets the road, facts don’t necessarily pan out the way you’d think they should.

Take, for instance, what happened several weeks ago when a Mormon bishop dismissed a Sunday school teacher for using the Church’s recent essay on race.

The white Sunday school teacher was simply answering a question posed by a student who asked why his Nigerian wife would join a church with a racist past. The teacher, using the Church’s authorized curriculum, was shown no mercy, and essentially axed from his position. You can read about the event on the Salt Lake Tribune’s website.

Besides being wrong in their methodology about this one topic, we’re wondering what they’d have to say about Jesus’ teaching there is nothing hidden that you should know.
