Tip of the Day March 25 Blowing of the Shofars

March 25 – Blowing of the Shofars. Psalm 81:3; “Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.”

_____

The people considered the noise from the trumpets to be the voice and breath of God Himself. When the trumpets stopped at the end of the sacrifice at the temple, Jesus spoke the following words; ‘It is finished’. John 19:30. Mormons have been tricked into believing a couple of different stories about John 19:30. Take time to explain the significance in how the blowing of the shofars coincided with the timing of Jesus’ last words.

Journal of Discourses 23:174-175; “It is believed by many in the Christian world, that our Savior finished his mission when he expired upon the cross, and his last words on the cross, as given by the Apostle John—”it is finished,” are frequently quoted as evidence of the fact; but this is an error. Christ did not complete his mission upon the earth until after his body was raised from the dead. Had his mission been completed when he died, his disciples would have continued fishermen, carpenters, etc., for they returned to their several occupations soon after the crucifixion…” – Joseph F. Smith, Salt Lake City, June 18, 1882
