When Joseph Smith brought this Gospel to the world, there was a great deal more faith in God, a great deal more faith in his revelations, and, according to the light they had, a great deal more pure and undefiled religion than there is now. We have carried the Gospel to all Christian nations who would permit us, and they have rejected it, and they are under condemnation.” — Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, January 12, 1873
Ephesians 4:32 “And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”
One major thing I had to address when leaving Mormonism, and transitioning into a Christian lifestyle was my judgmental attitude. While I knew it was a problem, I repented for it at the altar, however, it still took sweet Jesus a fair amount of time to soften the rough edges I had built up over 30 years.
Mr. Woodruff’s speech reminds me of the life I used to live. He was quick to throw fallacious accusations around to see what might stick. The problem? Nothing he said was true!
1.For the record, Christians then, and now, still look to Him!
2.Christians know Jesus already fulfilled the Law by giving His life!
3.By the time Mr. Woodruff made these claims, the world was well aware of Joe Smith’s lies and less likely to fall for his trickery. It’s not that they were less open to God, rather, they were done with Smith’s lies.
4.Last but not least, God’s kingdom has already been established on earth, hence, the discussion of Christians today.
With Love in Christ;
