‘Garb’ of Mormonism Most Popular in Heaven

‘Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.’ John 14:6

Journal of Discourses 9:319-320 “There is not another religion so popular as this in the courts of heaven. Without the garb of a Saint you cannot be admitted to the presence of the Father, and to Jesus, the Mediator between God and man. No religion is popular there but the religion of the Bible. …

“But,” says a Presbyterian, “Abraham was a polygamist.” He was. “And you say that his religion is popular in heaven.”

It is the only religion acknowledged there. I have not time now to dwell upon all the points of Abraham’s faith, but he did believe in a plurality of wives, and was a practical polygamist. …

But is the religion of any one of the sects, as a whole, the religion of heaven? It is not. We all desire to join the popular party. Light, truth, and intelligence are the side that is popular with the heavens, and the side that will rule, govern, and control the nations. If we join that society we then all become popular with the popular party…” — Brigham Young, Bowery in Salt Lake City, July 6, 1862

Matthew 7:14 “Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

Today we have a few questions/comments about Brigham’s idea of what heaven will be like.

1.2 Corinthians 6:14, Romans 12:2, 1 Corinthians 15:33, Galatians 6:3, Proverbs 16:18, and Matthew 10:22, are but a few examples where the Lord reminds us this life isn’t about trying to win a popularity contest.

If you’re trying to be popular in heaven, your understanding of heaven is wrong.

2.Here’s how Dictionary.com defines garb –

‘a fashion or mode of dress (in the garb of a monk), an outward appearance or form’

The Bible tells us that we’ll be wearing robes of righteousness, but Brigham has made heaven sound like it’s a costume party.

3.Why is Brigham fixated on tearing down the Lord’s bride? Christianity is evidential proof of Jesus’ powerful work! It may sound as if we’re reaching back into old files to be sensational, however, the Church was still doing this at their last conference. See post on Jeffrey Holland in our witnessing tip of the day for April 16.

4.If Brigham’s teaching is correct, and all we need to get into heaven is wearing the right ‘garb’, why did Jesus shed His precious blood?

If you’re LDS, what are your thoughts about this? We pray you know the only way to get into heaven is by accepting Jesus as your Savior!

With Love in Christ;
