LDS: Spirit of Elijah is Holy Ghost

The Spirit of Elijah, by Definition, Is the Holy Ghost as His Directing Influence Guides Those Who Participate in Family History and Temple Work [2.6] ““The Spirit of Elijah” is a manifestation of the Holy Ghost. [2.6.1] Latter-day Saints often talk about “the Spirit of Elijah.” This phrase refers to the workings of the Holy Ghost upon individuals that creates an excitement and desire “to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the children to the fathers” (D&C 110:15) and to be involved in the work of family history. Elder Russell M. Nelson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles explained: “What is sometimes called the Spirit of Elijah [is] a manifestation of the Holy Ghost bearing witness of the divine nature of the family. Hence, people throughout the world, regardless of religious affiliation, are gathering records of deceased relatives at an ever-increasing rate” (in Conference Report, Apr. 1998, 43; or Ensign, May 1998, 34).”

Matthew 11:14 “And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.”

Malachi 4:5-6 is the last prophecy in the OT – it tells us God will send Elijah to announce the coming of the Lord. John the Baptist is the Elias of the NT. This simply means he came in the spirit of Elijah to warn people how things were about to change, and dramatically so! See Matthew Henry’s Commentary for more info on Matthew 11:14.

The Church goes out of its way to make excuses for their ungodly behavior. Today we see how their excuses for necromancy will turn hearts away from Jesus, instead of showing how John the Baptist was a fulfillment of Malachi’s prophecy 400+ years earlier.

Most unfortunately, LDS kids are usually their target audience. They’ll carry the confusion in their hearts forever , or until they leave, and investigate it for themselves.

The other major problem is lying about God’s Holy Spirit.

I know from experience the Lord speaks to even the most unnoticed in this world. Please, pray for Jesus to intervene, and cause members young, and old, to investigate what they’re taught!

When you have the opportunity, share simple facts like the last prophecy in the OT is found in Malachi, or something similar that’s easy for them to remember.
