Today’s post comes courtesy of a visitor to the blog, Sandra Walker. She made a comment on our post the other day citing one of Joe Smith’s prophecies from D&C 128 that I hadn’t noticed before, thus our look at it here!
Here’s what Sandra said –
“D&C 132:8…..um, order? First garments were to your ankles. Now they are not. First you had to wear temple garments as a visitor to a sealing, now you don’t. First no hot drinks. Now, go for it. First no coke. Now, enjoy your coke w/ caffeine. First certain men could take lots of wives. Now, no one can. My head hurts.
Thanks for all you do, lifeafter! I am re-learning so many things I forgot or never knew about this church. The devil is so clever.”
Thanks to Sandra, and many others who’ve helped out with comments, articles, and prayers. This ministry is a result of Jesus’ great grace and His endless supply of Christians who encourage and help out! And by the way Sandra, you’re most welcome!
Joseph Smith’s ‘thus saith the Lord’ claim in our example today was false just as other claims he made have been false. In the 27+ years I’ve been in ministry I’ve learned that he went out of his way to turn every biblical doctrine on its proverbial head. Adding insult to injury the Church admitted he was practicing polygamy 12 years before he officially declared another ‘thus saith the Lord’ revelation. See D&C 132 Intro —
‘Although the revelation was recorded in 1843, evidence indicates that some of the principles involved in this revelation were known by the Prophet as early as 1831.’
From their statement above you can see they can’t bring themselves to make a simple statement of truth without trying to hide something. The ‘principles’, aka polygamy, weren’t just known – he was busy practicing his nefarious deeds. By 1843 Smith had more than 42 wives.
Our list of LDS references is another reason to pray. I’m praying for people like my mother to stop and think about the things this church says instead of being so quick to accept everything they hear or read. May Jesus have mercy on them and intervene just as He’s done for others!
