The dire circumstances in Ukraine have captured headlines the world over, and scenes of families being torn apart are nothing short of heartbreaking. What I’ve seen on t.v. reminds me of something from years ago.
In August 1990 my husband Kirk and I were on our way home from a holiday when we heard on the radio of Iraq invading Kuwait. The news also reported that US forces were on their way overseas.
Two days later I was sitting in a parking lot watching Kirk walk into a building where members of his squadron were checking in to leave for Saudi.
As I watched him walk away, I couldn’t help but wonder if I’d ever see him again. I was four months pregnant with our daughter Jacquelyn., and to say it was a stressful time in life would be an understatement. Thankfully, he returned home safe to me and our two month old daughter.
To be sure, the scenario at Nellis AFB in Vegas wasn’t nearly as chaotic as what’s been shown on our nightly news channels, but I can certainly relate to the families being torn apart because of the behavioral problems dictators impose on society.
For a few moments today, please pray for the dads, moms, grandparents and kids who have had their lives turned upside down and for the Lord’s Spirit to give them peace.
