LDS Highest Calling is Motherhood

June 26 — Highest Calling. Philippians 3:14 “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

Some are called to be doctors, lawyers, police officers, or plant technicians, and some are called to be a mom. Every person on earth is the picture of a different calling.

However, those positions are a microcosm of what God has called each of us to fulfill.

Don’t get me wrong. I love being a mom, but more than that, my favorite role is being a child of the King! Nothing is more important to me than that goal. It has shaped every role I have in this life.

The LDS reference today has to be one of the saddest things I’ve come across in this ministry. It’s sad not only because it’s theologically wrong in every way, but it’s sad because of who delivered the message.

Sheri Dew is a highly accomplished woman who’s achieved prestigious positions in the Church, and business world. The one thing she’s not done is to fulfill the role of mom, which she said is mandatory for true salvation. That in itself isn’t wrong mind you, but her own words have damned herself.

We’re praying for Ms. Dew, and all other Mormons, who believe that parenthood is necessary for salvation. Ask the Mormon in your life what they think of Ms. Dew’s theory.

Ensign, ‘Are We Not All Mothers?’, November 2001 “Motherhood is more than bearing children. … It is the essence of who we are as women. … We just can’t let the Lord down. And if the day comes when we are the only women on earth who find nobility and divinity in motherhood, so be it. For mother is the word that will define a righteous woman made perfect in the highest degree of the celestial kingdom, a woman who has qualified for eternal increase in posterity, wisdom, joy, and influence.” — Sheri Dew
