“Joseph Smith accomplished more than any mortal man could have accomplished in so short a time.”
This comment makes me want to ask, what did he accomplish? It’s no secret that Mormons hold this man in high regard. Having a testimony of his work, along with Jesus (of course), is one of the requirements individuals must meet to join this religion and later attend its temple.
Mormon doctrine teaches that Smith was called by God to restore the gospel of Jesus Christ on the earth. Yet none of the teachings he “restored” are mentioned in the Bible or by Jesus. If you bring that up, the Mormons will counter the argument by saying “many plain and precious truths” of the gospel were removed by evil men with nefarious intentions. This is why Smith had to restore things and make them right.

John Taylor wrote in Doctrine and Covenants 135:3,
“Joseph Smith, the Prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it.”
If we have Jesus, if he paid it all for our salvation, why do we need Smith? Mormons will tell you how much they love Jesus Christ; they will say, “his name is in the title of our church”. But when it comes down to it, do they know who he is and what he has done for them? If they can look to anyone or anything else for their salvation, besides Jesus Christ, they don’t.
Mormons want you to believe their religion will draw you closer to Jesus, but in fact, it will pull you further away from him.
I pray they come to know who he is and what he has done for them.
In Christ,
Melissa Grimes
