Why Did Joseph Smith Build a Temple?

“Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet”. Acts 7:48

 March 5 — Doctrine and Covenants 124:27-28, 40-42 “…build a house to my name, for the Most High to dwell therein. ²⁸ For there is not a place found on earth that he may come to and restore again that which was lost unto you, or which he hath taken away, even the fulness of the priesthood…. ⁴⁰ And verily I say unto you, let this house be built unto my name, that I may reveal mine ordinances therein… ⁴¹ For I deign to reveal unto my church things which have been kept hid from before the foundation of the world, things that pertain to the dispensation of the fulness of times. ⁴² And I will show unto my servant Joseph all things pertaining to this house, and the priesthood thereof, and the place whereon it shall be built.” — January 19, 1841, Nauvoo, Illinois

2 Corinthians 6:16 “And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

John 14:17 “Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”

There are dozens of biblical passages telling us the Lord’s Spirit lives inside the believer and not in a building. 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 6:19, Jeremiah 31:33-34, Ezekiel 36:26, and Romans 8:11 are just a few examples.

Joe Smith and his god were/are deceivers.

Furthermore, Jesus’ death removed the veil between God and man, and Smith’s revelation is nothing more than an attempt to put it back up.

Jesus died to pay for our sins! What more could He do? How much blood did He need to spill? Hebrews 9:14

“How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”
