Another End of the World Prophecy Gone Bad

Only the good Lord knows and has kept track of all the doomsday prophets of this world. There was Jim Jones in the ’70’s and Harold Camping today. According to Time Magazine, Camping predicted the world would end yesterday, May 22, 2011. It’s a good thing he was wrong because I was attending our neighbor’s wedding when the supposed end was predicted!

Time reported the pastor as saying “89-year-old Harold Camping is preaching with utter certainty about the end of the world. “May 21, 2011, is the day of judgment,” he says with conviction, in a YouTube video posted last year. “It is the day that ends all gospel salvation activity … It is the most important day by a billion times than any other day the world has ever known.””

While this pastor proved himself to be a false prophet as of yesterday, did you know that Joseph Smith did the same thing Harold Camping was obviously guilty of ? Here’s what happened back in 1835;

History of the Church 2:182; “…and it was the will of God that those who went Zion, with a determination to lay down their lives, if necessary, should be ordained to the ministry, and go forth to prune the vineyard for the last time, or the coming of the Lord, which was nigh—even fifty-six years should wind up the scene.”

So in light of that scenario we’re wondering if the Mormons will hold Joseph Smith to the same standard they’d hold Harold Camping to??? Unfortunately, we’re thinking they probably won’t regardless of what God says in Deuteronomy 18:20-22; “But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

²¹And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?

²²When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.”
