Teachings of the Presidents of the Church, Harold B. Lee, pgs 13-14; “I tell you I think this was a great risk that our Father was taking to send us down here with the privilege of our agency to make a choice. Now in order to make our choice and thus gain our eternal rewards, there was something that had to happen to us…
Now to be an independent thinking individual, we had to have not only just the good but we had to have the evil in order that we could choose between the two. Now you think about that for a moment. If everything were good in the world and there were none evil, would you be able to choose anything but good? If everything were evil in the world, if there wasn’t any good to choose, could you choose anything else but evil? When you think about it for a moment, the only way there could be free agency in the individuals who live upon this earth is to have both the good and the bad and each one of us given the opportunity to choose for ourselves.”
Isaiah 55:8; “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.”
I honestly don’t think Mormons (most of them anyway) realize just how evil their Church is. I grew up under the watchful eyes of many devout Utah Mormons being tutored and led to believe the very words that escaped from this man’s mouth. Harold B. Lee was the Mormon prophet who served a short amount of time (1972-1973), but left an indelible mark on many, including me. It never occurred to me this dogma was so far removed from biblical Christianity.
Teachings like this are the reason why Christians are shocked when they hear them and rightly so! Nothing in the Bible supports this philosophy and in fact denounces it!
Why would God who is righteous, perfect and holy allow or need to rely upon evil to institute His plan? Where in the Bible does it say this?
If evil was necessary to make choices in life then I have a question for the Mormons reading this.
God told Adam to name the animals. Genesis 2:19. When he made choices to give them each a name did he choose between an evil or good name for the zebra or elephant, etc? His decision on what animals would be known by wasn’t based on evil or good since at that time he hadn’t sinned so how did he have a choice if there was no evil in the world yet?
Joseph Smith didn’t like the fact that he wasn’t God and didn’t call the shots so he planted doubts about God’s sovereignty into people’s minds so he could receive all the attention and not the Lord.
Mr. Lee believed God took a risk sending man here with the ability to think for himself, but God knew exactly what He was doing and didn’t need anyone’s approval or help for that matter.
