Mormon Dilemma 141

How God Created Man

Journal of Discourses 11:122-123; “God has made His children like Himself to stand erect, and has endowed them with intelligence and power and dominion over all His works, and given them the same attributes which He himself possesses. He created man, as we create our children; for there is no other process of creation in heaven, on the earth, in the earth, or under the earth, or in all the eternities, that is, that were, or that ever will be.” – Brigham Young,

Genesis 2:7; “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Oh my, that’s quite the discrepancy eh?  So which one is truth?  These stories differ so wildly from each other that any misunderstanding can’t come from just one or two words.

Joseph Smith took every single teaching in the Bible and changed its meaning to the exact opposite of what is true.  After spending 30 years in Mormonism and another 18 years studying this religion I’ve not found a single thing about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, salvation or anything relating to these subjects that went untouched by Joseph Smith.  He spent an exorbitant amount of time rewriting the Bible and redefining meanings of words and phrases found in the Bible.

Let’s look at just one item of interest from Mr. Brigham Young that’s worthy of our attention; the attributes of God.  Because His attributes are inexhaustible we’re just going to look at a few of these and see if man possesses the same.

God is unchangeable

D&C 20:17; “By these things we know that there is a God in heaven, who is infinite and eternal, from everlasting to everlasting the same unchangeable God, the framer of heaven and earth, and all things which are in them.”

This revelation was given to Smith in April 1830.

Alma 11:44; “…every thing shall be restored to its perfect frame, as it is now, or in the body, and shall be brought and be arraigned before the bar of Christ the Son, and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, which is one Eternal God, to be judged according to their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil.

This was written circa 1829.

The examples above sound great, however, Mormons also believe God was once a man like us, so how can the passages in D&C and the Book of Mormon be true?

See the revelation he shared with the congregation (listed below) in April 1844 which is diametrically opposed to what he had preached in 1829 in the Book of Mormon and in the Doctrine and Covenants in 1830.  Just 15 short years later we have a different god and a different Jesus. So much for the Book of Mormon being the “most correct book on the face of the earth”…

Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, pg. 345; God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man, and sits enthroned in yonder heavens! That is the great secret. If the veil were rent today, and the great God who holds this world in its orbit, and who upholds all worlds and all things by his power, was to make himself visible,—I say, if you were to see him today, you would see him like a man in form—like yourselves…

Isaiah 3:9; The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.

Isaiah 46:9; “Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me.”

My, what a tangled web we weave when we practice to deceive…

God is omnipotent & omniscient

Ensign, May 1973, pg. 3; “…He is omnipotent and omniscient; he has all power and all wisdom; and his perfections consist in the possession of all knowledge, all faith or power, all justice, all judgment, all mercy, all truth, and the fullness of all godly attributes.” – Joseph Field Smith

Psalm 147:5; “Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.”

God is not omnipresent

Journal of Discourses 2:345; Every one knows that it is absurd to believe in a personage being present in two places at once.”But,” says one, nothing is impossible with God.” But I beg to differ with such persons, and inform them, that if the Scripture be true, there are things which are impossible with God; for it is said that it is impossible for Him to lie; and if so, it would be impossible for Him to act inconsistent with truth; He could not place His body in Europe and America at the same time, for that would be inconsistent with the simplest principles of truth.” – Orson Pratt, February 15, 1855, Salt Lake City

Psalm 139:7-10; Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?  8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.  9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

Here we go again.  How can God be omnipotent if he’s not omnipresent?

God Reproduces after His Own Kind

Adam, Who Is He, pg. 54; The Almighty, in creating various forms of life, commanded all to reproduce after their own kind. Man also was commanded to reproduce himself. He could bring forth only after his kind according to the law of God, and he was “after the kind” or order of his Eternal Father in heaven. No lower forms were involved… This is interesting in view of the previous scripture in which all life was commanded to reproduce only after its own kind. Now he says that all forms of life remained in the sphere in which he created them. There was no transfer from one species to another.” – Mark Petersen

Galatians 3:26; For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

I often wonder what the leaders of Mormonism think when they die and see God face to face.  Talk about scary.

God and Humans Made of Same Species

Encyclopedia of Mormonism, pg. 549; “The important points of the doctrine for Latter-day Saints are that Gods and humans are the same species of being, but at different stages of development in a divine continuum, and that the heavenly Father and Mother are the heavenly pattern, model, and example of what mortals can become through obedience to the gospel…Knowing that they are the literal offspring of Heavenly Parents and that they can become like those parents through the gospel of Jesus Christ is a wellspring of religious motivation.”

Nowhere in the Bible does it say man and God are of the same species!
