Holy Ghost not essential to salvation 

Doctrines of Salvation 1:39; “I have never troubled myself about the Holy Ghost whether he will sometime have a body or not because it is not in any way essential to my salvation. He is a member of the Godhead, with great power and authority, with a most wonderful mission which must be performed by a spirit. This has satisfied me without delving into mysteries that would be of no particular benefit.”

Hebrews 10:15-17; “Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, 16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; 17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.”

The Doctrines of Salvation is a three volume work of Joseph Fielding Smith (1876-1972), the tenth prophet of the LDS Church. This volume of work contains the writings and sermons of Smith, giving detailed insight into the foundational beliefs of Mormonism. 

As you can see the Mormon prophet hasn’t studied the Bible at all or he totally threw it out of his to-do list of things to study. When I was growing up in the Church I was always taught the Holy Ghost was waiting for a body and had no clue His “job” was to perform a function in my life as a believer. 

Smith’s comments serve as proof he was part of confusing people about the nature of God and all parts of the Trinity.
