Necromancy; Talking to Dead Relatives

Necromancy

I’m sure all of us remember with fondness the day we were born again. The absolute helplessness we experience as we give up the power struggle we fought so hard for all those years is an event we never forget.

This is when I can totally relate to what it must feel like to be a baby or small child. He/she puts their arms out to their loving parent knowing the arms picking them up will be filled with love, warmth, patience and understanding. There is no condemnation for the child in the safe arms of the parent because they know and willingly accept they are the sole means of survival for the totally helpless child.

This is the experience of becoming born again. It doesn’t matter what our past is stained with as God the Father is fully aware of what we’ve done. He already knows what’s in store for both of us and He’s fully capable of the intense workload He’s committed Himself to.  Just as the parent can clean up the messes kids make, our God can clean us up as well.

Mind you, He’s not going to make the ugly past go away, but His mercy and the Holy Spirit gives us strength to go through a good dose of behavior modification. Repentance is the only way out of the problems we find ourselves in.

Repentance is part of the process in healing that ultimate relationship between you as mankind and your Maker, God Himself. There is no shame when we go to our Father in heaven. Guilt yes, shame no.

Repenting is what I did when denouncing the necromantic behavior I participated in while being baptized for dead people.  Another behavioral problem I had while being a Mormon was my participation in séances and playing with the Ouija Board. While they both sound innocuous to many, that’s not exactly how God looks upon that behavior.

Leviticus 19:31; “Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.”

One of my most vivid memories of being a Mormon is of when my daughter Mallory died. My mother called me repeatedly after her death to ask if I’d seen her yet.  I finally had to tell her to stop asking because I wasn’t going to see her this side of heaven. And then one day I received a package in the mail.

She sent me a book called “Angel Children” by Mary A. Hill. The author was/is a devout Mormon who wrote the story of when her son Stephen died as a baby and her prayers were to see her dead son again. This woman believed her wishes were fulfilled through the patriarchal blessings of the Mormon priesthood. She tells the story of when a “full grown spirit” appeared to her and told her things that comforted her.

So was it her son? Well, according to the Bible; no.

Isaiah 38:18; “For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.”

We’re warned by God not to worship our ancestors (1 Tim. 1:4) and we’re warned by God that calling spirits forth thinking they’re dead people is wrong as well (1 Sam. 28:13) because they’re not dead people appearing to us, they’re false gods.

And thus we go further into our story of Joseph Smith scaring your kids and even me in a spooky film about Smith’s first vision out in a grove of trees – which by the way isn’t favored by God either, but alas, that’s for another article…things about Molech come to mind…ugh.

Now for Joseph and his “first vision”.

In a made for the family film depicting Joseph’s life and first vision, I came upon a scene straight from the scary files and I would ask the reader when you look at this still shot are you thinking of those nice warm arms of a loving parent I mentioned earlier?

The scary people approaching Smith out in the woods are supposedly God and his literally begotten son Jesus. Again, this is necromancy. Talking to dead people and spirits is not from God and to put it bluntly so there are no misunderstandings; it’s demonic.

Why would you want to subject your children to this?

If Joseph Smith is seeking God for a personal relationship and find out which church to join why would he entertain the idea of talking to spirits floating through the air? And if that wasn’t bad enough the rest of Smith’s story is just as disconcerting. He claimed that a dark power enveloped him, causing so much grief that he thought he would soon die (Joseph Smith Testimony 1:16).

At some point after this appearance of floating spirits Smith referred to as God and Jesus, he has several more visits from an “angel of light:” by the name of Moroni. The Lord has made it abundantly clear that not one of the visits Smith claims he had from spirits, angels and risen dead people were sent by Him. We can read passage after passage throughout the Bible warning us of the dangers that these things aren’t possible and it’s not how God operates. Luke 16:19-31 is another great example of this!

We’re praying that when Mormons see this part of the film they’d be spiritually awakened to the dangers of believing Smith’s claims and the ongoing lies perpetuated by the Church.  There is no fear in being set free from the layers of deception. “God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all” – 1 John 1:5.
