Following the Church
Matthew 4:19, 25; “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. 25 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.”
I’ve asked the question many times “Are you on your way to Jerusalem” and each day we need to pray the Lord will keep our hearts resolute to do just that.
Three years after Jesus introduced Himself to the disciples we read how Peter has denied Him. How many times had they publicly declared they’d follow Him to the ends of the earth and how many times did He try to tell them it was going to be more difficult than a childlike commitment is unknown. Their experiences are much like ours today.
We have the same power of God in our midst as He literally resides inside of us and yet we still find it hard. Each of us has had our own Peter moments in life, but we need to remember we’re not here to follow a church or a prophet!
As Christians we’re here to follow Jesus exclusively!
When someone asks you about your faith do you proudly tout “Oh I’m a Lutheran” or “I belong to such and such fill in the blank church”? NO! When people ask about our faith we proclaim Christ Jesus!
The foolish traditions in Mormonism are many, but matter what they are, at the end of the day that’s all they are – traditions.
Are you following Jesus or a church? If you’re following a church, i.e. Mormonism, okay. It’d be sad, but you need to admit you’re following a church. If you’re following a church then why are you calling yourself a Christian? Christians are people who follow Jesus – not a church.
