Angel of Light
The spiritual part of us and the emotional part of us are so closely linked that is possible to mistake an emotional impulse for something spiritual. We occasionally find people who receive what they assume to be spiritual promptings from God, when those promptings are either centered in the emotions or are from the adversary.

1974 Doctrine and Covenants Introduction “This took place in the early spring of 1820. In September 1823, and at later times, Joseph Smith received visitations from Moroni, an angel of light, who revealed the resting place of the ancient record from which the Book of Mormon was afterward translated.”
Matthew 26:31-34 “Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.”
Well it’s certainly dangerous to trust feelings and emotions and we’ve been saying this for years now! Why would you trust your heart when your emotions change? How is this any way to trust God? Sadly this is exactly what the teenage boy Joseph Smith did when he listened to a false spirit and claimed it was God. This false spirit’s name was Moroni!
Joseph Smith’s Testimony 2:47; “After this third visit, he again ascended into heaven as before, and I was again left to ponder on the strangeness of what I had just experienced when almost immediately after the heavenly messenger had ascended from me for the third time, the cock crowed, and I found that day was approaching so that our interviews must have occupied the whole of that night”.
So a cock crowed after the angel Moroni appeared 3 times and introduced a false Christ and we see in the Bible that a cock crowed after Peter denied Jesus the 3rd time. Coincidence? Of course it’s not! This is Satan laughing in the face of God because he’s been able to trick people into denying Jesus.
And to make matters even worse we have one of their top officials, Mr. Packer telling people not to trust anyone who has a religious experience because it could’ve been an angel of light coming to deceive. Good grief, what a tangled web we weave…
