Romans 9:30-32; “What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith. 31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. 32 Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone,”
Joseph Smith’s interpretation of Romans chapter nine is way off! The Gentiles and Jews from the time of Jesus’ death onward received salvation because of faith, not because of their good works. Furthermore, the foreordination of God took place long before any of us came into being and God had already planned for the Gentiles to be grafted into His family through adoption.
If it was true that murderers won’t be saved then Moses, David, Paul and a host of others won’t be in heaven. Jesus told the multitude in the Beatitudes that whoever cried “raca” (which means worthless) is guilty of murder. It’d be difficult at best to find anyone alive that’s not guilty of such a thing so that would mean they would go to hell as well.
Jesus said for all sins, man is forgiven except for the sin of blaspheming the Holy Ghost – Matthew 12:31. Every kind of sin includes murder, sexual sin, lust, pride, jealousy, theft…
If the Church doesn’t believe murderers can go to heaven then why did they baptize Hitler in the Los Angeles Temple in 1980? Hitler, of all people!
In Acts 2:27 the Apostle Peter paraphrased King David’s praise that God wouldn’t leave his soul in hell. “Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.” If this was true then why did Joseph Smith not mention what Peter said? Did Smith not know about this or did he just outright lie? Your guess is as good as mine…
