Tip of the Day, September 28

September 28 – Genesis 1:1; “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

_____

The study word for the day is created.  The Hebrew word for this is ba-ra.  The transliteration for this word is:  select, choose, to create, make.  Webster’s definition says this:  to originate; to bring into existence from nothing.  The scribes of the Bible didn’t ‘infer’ anything in quoting Moses when he said; ‘In the beginning God created the world’.  They were simply stating facts that had been told by God Himself.  Joseph Smith had a third grade education and here he is stating that all the learned men are wrong.

_____

“The Prophet said:  You ask the learned doctors why they say the world was made out of nothing, and they will answer, “Doesn’t the Bible say He created the world?” And they infer, from the word create, that it must have been made out of nothing. Now, the word create came from the word baurau, which does not mean to create out of nothing; it means to organize; the same as a man would organize materials and build a ship. Hence we infer that God had materials to organize the world out of chaos—chaotic matter, which is element and in which dwells all the glory.”  Hyrum L. Andrus. God, Man, and the Universe, 299.
