Visiting Teaching Message February 2016

The title of this month’s Visiting Teaching Message is ‘Marriage is Ordained of God’.

As most of you know, each month I find myself on my knees praying to sweet Jesus the next month’s message won’t be as bad, and much to my chagrin, somehow it’s the same, or even worse. Ugh.

Although this month’s message was pretty short, there were a few notable things to look at so we’re just going to jump right in, and ask questions as we go along.

1.This message opened up with asking members how understanding the Mormon ‘Family Proclamation’, would increase their faith in God. I’m actually going to use this as a conversation with my mother who just so happens to be a VT teacher. Pray for me as I ask her what she’s learned through this lesson, and how she’ll be sharing it with the women in her area.

If you have any insights, I’d LOVE to hear from you!!!

2.The second item of interest is the same thing they always say which is another ploy used to de-stimulate the minds of their followers. When the same message is repeatedly used time and again without any thought provoking stimuli, you have a recipe for lulling your audience to sleep in a hurry. Sadly, this is a common theme in Mormonism.

‘Prophets, apostles, and leaders continue to “solemnly proclaim that marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God and that the family is central to the Creator’s plan.”1

Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said: “A family built on the marriage of a man and woman supplies the best setting for God’s plan to thrive. …

“… Neither we nor any other mortal can alter this divine order of matrimony.”2

Questions we have about what they’ve said above –

Why isn’t Jesus hanging on the cross central to God’s plan?

Why is their central message always about sex and procreation?

If man can’t alter the ‘divine order of matrimony’, why did the Church alter it by tossing the polygamy mandate aside?

3.At the end of their lesson they made the following comments which I have to say, is still perplexing to me!

‘“Some of you are denied the blessing of marriage for reasons including a lack of viable prospects, same-sex attraction, physical or mental impairments, or simply a fear of failure. … Or you may have married, but that marriage ended. … Some of you who are married cannot bear children. …“Even so, … everyone can contribute to the unfolding of the divine plan in each generation.”4

First of all, stating that someone is denied ‘the blessing of marriage’, is another way of trying to lay a guilt trip on those who are single.

When did Jesus ever condemn someone for this?

Secondly, the same-sex attraction comment is rather odd. The Church has always classified homosexuality as a choice, so how are they denied a blessing at the same time? Once again, we find another contradictory Mormon doctrine…

As always, we’re asking you pray for those who believe these false doctrines! As time goes on and the world gets more confusing, the Church seems to be going out of its way to make things more difficult for members.

Pray for the ordinary members, and those who teach these things!

With Love in Christ;
