Witnessing Tip of the Day August 21

August 21 – Stones Molten from Rocks. 1 Samuel 5:1, 6; “And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Eben-ezer unto Ashdod. 6 But the hand of the LORD was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.”

Today you’ll want to present a few questions to your Mormon friends, not out of ridicule mind you, but as a means in prompting them to think things through.

Dictionary.com defines molten as something that’s been liquefied by heat. How did the Jaredites accomplish such a thing circa 2200 BC, and how did a rock turn into something transparent?

What purpose does this story serve for the Mormon today, and their walk with the Lord?

Jared’s brother supposedly took these stones to the top of the highest mountain in the area, and for the lack of a better phrase, ‘offered them to God in prayer’ at the top of this mountain.

Why did he do this and what does it mean? What biblical references are there from God telling us to do this type of thing?

All this false worship to a false god is reminiscent of when the Philistines took the Ark of the Covenant into their temple and placed it next to their false god Dagon. The results were disastrous, and they couldn’t get the Ark out of town quick enough!

Ether 3:1; “And it came to pass that the brother of Jared…went forth unto the mount, which they called the mount Shelem, because of its exceeding height, and did molten out of a rock sixteen small stones; and they were white and clear, even as transparent glass; and he did carry them in his hands upon the top of the mount…”
