Plan of Salvation ‘Calculated to Make Devils and Saints’

Journal of Discourses 4:372; “Giving endowments to a great many proves their overthrow, through revealing things to them which they cannot keep. They are not worthy to receive them. Brother Heber takes the lead in giving endowments, and you may ask, “Why do you give such folks their endowments?” To qualify them to be devils, if they wish to be. The plan of salvation is calculated to make devils as well as Saints; for by and by we shall need some to serve as devils; and it takes almost as much knowledge to make a complete devil as it does to fit a man to go into the celestial kingdom of God, and become an heir to His kingdom. We want to complete the education of a number of such fellows.” – Brigham Young, Salt Lake City, June 28, 1857

1 Thessalonians 5:21-22; “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.”

There have been times I’ve cried myself to sleep because of Mormon writings. This is one of them. Oh, how my heart grieves over what my family has done by continuing the lies, just as I grieve over the mess they’re still in today.

Where does the Bible say we need some people to serve as devils, or that we need to ‘make devils’? Why would the doctrines you’re preaching produce devils?

If your pastor said such a thing, how long would he be employed? I pray each of us would kick such blasphemy to the curb where it belongs. This type of teaching has no place at the pulpit, or in the pews, of true Christianity.

To be sure, this is going into our ‘worst of the worst’ file!
