Journal of Discourses 1:170 “If there had been no devil to tempt Eve, she never would have got her eyes opened. We need a devil to stir up the wicked on the earth to purify the Saints. Therefore let devils howl, let them rage, and thus exhibit themselves in the form of those poor foolish Lamanites. Let them go on in their work, and do you not desire to kill them, until they ought to be killed, and then we will extinguish the Indian title, if it is required.” — Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, July 31, 1853
Isaiah 5:20 “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”
This is the third speech we’ve discovered where Brigham Young has all but hinted at the idea evil is a mainstay of the Mormon gospel. We posted on the other two in December. See LDS Needs Evil to Gain Salvation, and LDS Gospel Prepares Members to Become Devils, for more info.
Although Mormons today are probably unaware of his blasphemy, the mindset of his teachings has carried on down through the years.
We’re wondering why Brigham thought they needed evil to be purified…as the old saying goes, mixing dirty water with clean water only produces more dirty water.
Moreover, why is this ‘prophet’ advocating that they exterminate a people group? Is this something Jesus would do? Why would he say such things if they truly believed Native Americans descended from the tribe of Israel?
Brigham’s talk is a good example in showing why Mormons today are so confused. They’ve been fed so many lies over the years, and those lies do nothing but lead them away from the Lord, not to Him.
Pray for Jesus to continue opening the eyes of Mormons today and turn to Him, not their mischievous leaders!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
