While the Mormon Church sounds good in their explanation of the gospel in today’s lesson, in reality their understanding of the gospel is far different than what they purport it to be. They believe you have to ‘obey the gospel ordinances’ in order to gain exaltation.
And by the way, the word gospel doesn’t mean good tidings. It means good news!
Good news! God has provided THE way for you to be saved!
Good news! God loves you & gave His ONLY BEGOTTEN SON to die in your stead!
Good news! You don’t have to work yourself to death to maybe earn a chance to go to heaven!
One more thing, McConkie stated that Christ established His early kingdom here. If this is true then what’s up with Joseph Smith saying his job was to bring about the kingdom of God on earth? Mormon Doctrine, p. 45 also said; “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as it is now constituted is the kingdom of God on earth. Nothing more needs to be done to establish the kingdom. (D. & C. 35:27; 38:9, 15; 50:35; 62:9; 65; 136:41.) The kingdom is here, and it is the same kingdom which Daniel said would be set up in the last days. (Dan. 2:44-45.) This same kingdom has been set up in the past ages whenever the gospel has been on earth, for the plan of salvation is the gospel of the kingdom. The Church and kingdom are one and the same.”
