Colossians 3:9 “Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds”.
Joshua 24:15 “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”
Mormons have come up with numerous reasons why Smith was killed, one of which is when Brigham claimed it was because ol’ Joe was too righteous…Being honest consists of telling the whole truth all the time, and that’s not what was done here! Mr. Taylor’s words are disingenuous by stating Smith was killed to prevent him from being elected.
That might be part of it, however, the overall reason he was attacked is because of his chronic behavioral problems. The locals weren’t fond of his womanizing, nor were they thrilled with the way he took advantage of people in land deals. Making matters worse were his continued threats the U.S. would be met with bloodshed, and summarily annihilated, because they rejected Smith’s gospel. See 120+ False Prophecies of Joseph Smith. Keep in mind, Smith came on the scene not long after America had just won her independence, so threatening annihilation wasn’t taken lightly at the time. The straw that broke the camel’s back was his order to burn down the Nauvoo Expositor building.
Lastly beloved, another telling piece of info that shan’t be missed about this church sits couched in Taylor’s publication; it’s the declaration Mormons are not abolitionists. At the time Mr. Taylor wrote this, Illinois was a free state, and try as they might to claim Smith wasn’t racist, the proof, as they say, is in the pudding.
Be sure to ask a Mormon why he thinks Smith was killed, and have the evidence at hand to lovingly show them otherwise.
With Love in Christ;
