Test of a True LDS Missionary

Doctrine and Covenants 84:86, 91 “Therefore, let no man among you, for this commandment is unto all the faithful who are called of God in the church unto the ministry, from this hour take purse or scrip, that goeth forth to proclaim this gospel of the kingdom. 91 And he that doeth not these things is not my disciple; by this you may know my disciples.” — 1832

Luke 10:4 “Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.”

Back in Joe Smith’s day missionaries did go out to preach, and relied solely on the kindness of strangers.

Fast forward 100+ years we can see how the Church has changed things, and dramatically so.

Mormon missionaries today do rely on themselves for sustenance. Now while that’s not a problem, we’re wondering why the narrative in LDS canon still says to go out carrying no purse, nor scrip…

Are they still considered true disciples?
