‘For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.’ Ephesians 2:8-9
Romans 1:16-17 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”
Mr. Kimball’s words are meant to draw people away from Jesus, not to Him. It’s a picture of what it was like before Jesus gave His life to redeem us. This is a tragic picture of true Mormonism. It offers no hope, and a much needed refuge for safety is totally missing.
Nothing in what he said would endear someone to the Lord.
Whatever happened to Matthew 11:29?
‘Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.’
Why would Jesus say this if the gospel meant more ordinances? The Israelites were already living under the burden of 613 laws.
Where’s the good news in that? James tells us that if we’re going to live under the law we must obey all of it. James 2:10 —
‘For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.’
Why is Mr. Kimball lifting scripture to prove his point when his definition is obviously wrong?
As you might imagine our list could go on and on. Kimball’s words should’ve been tossed, but unfortunately they’re still in use today.
