‘For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.’ Ephesians 2:8-9
The Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, 502 “Ordinances are basic to the gospel. Now, what is the gospel of which we speak? It is the power of God unto salvation; it is the code of laws and commandments which help us to become perfect, and the ordinances which constitute the entrance requirements.” — Spencer W. Kimball
Romans 1:16-17 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.”
Mr. Kimball’s words are meant to draw people away from Jesus, not to Him. It’s a picture of what it was like before Jesus gave His life to redeem us. This is a tragic picture of true Mormonism. It offers no hope, and a much needed refuge for safety is totally missing.
Nothing in what he said would endear someone to the Lord.
Whatever happened to Matthew 11:29?
‘Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.’
Why would Jesus say this if the gospel meant more ordinances? The Israelites were already living under the burden of 613 laws.
Where’s the good news in that? James tells us that if we’re going to live under the law we must obey all of it. James 2:10 —
‘For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.’
Why is Mr. Kimball lifting scripture to prove his point when his definition is obviously wrong?
As you might imagine our list could go on and on. Kimball’s words should’ve been tossed, but unfortunately they’re still in use today.
Share the good news with a Mormon today, and let them know Jesus nailed the ordinances to the cross!
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
The whole “Ordinances” thing with the church was, very troublesome, even when I was an active member. For example, there are “Saving Ordinances” (Endowments) that can only be done inside a Mormon Temple. You have to have a Temple Recommend in order to enter the Temple. One of the highlights of the Temple Recommend interview is where they ask you: Are you a full tithe payer? If not, you can not enter the temple to receive the ordinances of salvation. Its like you got to pay to play. Pay up or you Can’t be Saved, despite what that old Bible says about salvation. When in doubt, Bible vs Words of our Prophets….always refer to Article 8 of our Articles of Faith
Christ is not asking permission to a human about he wants his agenda to run the same that he asked to King David, Moises, the same things He offered to them is up to us to follow or not to follow. He does not need us. With us or without us HE WILL BE ALWAYS GOD! whatever he offers, teaches, implements, ordains, is for us if we are willing to do for our own salvation. He is the Savior and no matter what opinions, oppositions, mokery it will never affect him! I think that the worse part of illness is not Covit-19 IGNORANCE IS THE WORSE CANCER, VIRUS, BACTERIA, THAT A HUMAN CA BECOME CONTAMINATED WITH.
Hello there Anonymous,
Thanks so much for your comment, although I’m not totally sure where you are going with it.
Two things stand out…
* If you notice the date of this post, (10/24/19). Covid-19, was not a pandemic yet, and barely news worthy yet.
* You said ” if we’re willing to do for our own salvation”. Then the very next thing you say is “He is our Savior’.
So my question is…is Jesus your Savior, or you? It can’t be both, because if it was possible to save ourselves, then we don’t need a Savior.
Thanks again, Melissa
