False Hopes of a Powerless God

Essential Truths—Our Need to Act “Just imagine how blessed we are to know that God is a being with a body of flesh and bones as tangible as ours, that we can worship a God who is real, whom we can understand, and who has shown and revealed Himself and His Son to His prophets—both prophets of old and prophets in these latter days. He is a God who hears and answers our prayers; a God who watches us from heaven above and is constantly concerned about our spiritual and temporal well-being; a God who gives us agency to decide for ourselves to follow Him and obey His commandments without coercion; a God who gives us blessings and allows us to face trials so we can grow and become like Him.” — Adilson de Paula Parrella

Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord”

John 1:1, 14 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

Mr. Parella claimed their god revealed himself to the ‘prophets of old’, but we’re wondering how he could’ve done this.

The prophets of the Bible didn’t know the god of which this man is speaking of, nor did worship him.

The god that Mormons talk about has no historical background like the God of the Bible. He didn’t reveal himself to Adam, nor did he lead Moses out of Egypt. In fact, the Mormon god turns the attention of members back to slavery that the true God rescued them from! The Book of Abraham is proof they’re not listening to the God of the Bible.

Furthermore, how can this Mormon god hear people when Joseph Smith declared their god didn’t have the power to create them?

Times and Seasons, Vol. 5, No. 15, August 15, 1844, p. 615 “The soul, the mind of man, the immortal spirit. All men say God created it in the beginning. The very idea lessens man in my estimation; I do not believe the doctrine, I know better…The mind of man is as immortal as God himself…God never did have power to create the spirit of man at all.”

See our post in 2012, God and Man are Immortal, for more info. For other teachings on the LDS god, check out our 3,000 Reasons to Leave Mormonism.

Ask the Mormon you know what they think of this! Mr. Parrella gave his speech just two short years ago, and he’s still an active member of the General Authorities.

One last thing beloved ~

The Bible promised us that God would be with us. That’s a far different story than what Mr. Parrella is giving.

“Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” – Matthew 1:23
