LDS Using ‘Good Friday’ to Trick People

 On March 10, 2020 I moseyed on over to the Church’s front page and found an ad for an upcoming performance by their choir.

Clicking on the link brought me the biggest surprise I’ve had in a long while.

The link opens to a page advertising their promotion of a concert series held every other year, ‘Handel’s Messiah’. The wording they used is nothing but a ploy beloved!

In a conniving attempt to trick the unsuspecting, LDS Inc. decided to use the phrase ‘Good Friday’ without maligning it at the same time. The phrase, ‘Good Friday’ isn’t part of the Mormon vernacular, and never has been.

Furthermore, they don’t observe any of the special days of Holy Week at all. You’ll notice other than using the phrase, there’s no other indicator signifying they honor this tradition.

Here in part is what their ad said –

TheTabernacleChoir.org

“Live Concert Dates: The Choir and Orchestra will perform Handel’s Messiah on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah on Good Friday, April 10, and Saturday, April 11, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. …” [emp. added]

Be sure to warn your family and friends about this. Also, ask a Mormon if they know what ‘Good Friday’ is, and why Christians celebrate it.

There’s truly no other holiday more important than the observance of Good Friday, and Resurrection Sunday, aka Easter. All of what our dear Lord has told us in His word points to what He did for us, and the Church’s tactics are patronizing, not praiseworthy. Members deserve to know the truth without hidden agendas.

The truth about Mormonism and their attitude towards this most holy day can be seen in the quote below –

Answers to Gospel Questions 5:155 “Question: “Can you please tell me why members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do not observe Good Friday as other Christians do?”

Answer: The reason why we do not observe Good Friday should be clear enough.  Easter is taken from a pagan spring holiday, that was governed by the moon. The Roman Catholic Church connected the birth of the Savior with this pagan ceremony. As you know, Easter is governed by the moon, and this spring pagan festival was celebrated according to the moon, any time in March and the end of April.  THE RESURRECTION DATE DID NOT VARY.

Now as you well know that the resurrection did not vary and it is foolish to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord at the end of March or the first of April, or middle of April or near the first of May, and put Good Friday the Friday before the Easter Sunday. I think you are wise enough to see the foolishness of it. The resurrection of the Savior does not vary year by year but it is a constant thing. Why should we follow the silly custom rather than to have one day for the resurrection?” — Joseph Fielding Smith

As an FYI, I didn’t know what Good Friday was until after I left the Church. My experience speaks to the spiritual health of not just myself at the time, but Mormonism overall. For more info, see Why Mormons Can’t Observe Good Friday. When I think of this my heart breaks for people like my mother, and my countless number of cousins who dutifully follow along without asking questions.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Handel’s Messiah! However, I’m thoroughly convinced they use it just as they use Christian vocabulary, to trick people.

Please, don’t forget to pray for, and witness to them!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
