‘But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.’ Genesis 2:17
The Promised Messiah: The First Coming of Christ, p. 133 “No doctrine is more basic; no doctrine embraces a greater incentive to personal righteousness . . . as does the wondrous concept that man can be as his Maker. It was revealed first to Adam, to whom—after his baptism, after he had received the holy priesthood, after he had walked in paths of righteousness—the Lord said: “Thou art one in me, a son of God, and thus may all become my sons.” (Moses 6:68)” — Bruce R. McConkie, 1978 [emp. added]
Genesis 3:4-5 “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” [emp. added]
Isaiah 43:10-11 “Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. 11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.”
When I was a member of the LDS Church, I never stopped to think about the serpent using the same line on Eve that LDS leaders use to trick their followers.
Of course, after I left, I saw the shocking similarities, and their brazen lie became very obvious. Just as other new ex-Mormon Christians soon learn, this discovery was just one of their countless lies.
In a loving manner, point this example out to a Mormon you know, and ask them what they think about it.

So, Adam was baptized and received the priesthood…how did that work???
Baptism symbolizes dying in our sins and rising a new IN CHRIST JESUS. And how did Adam get the priesthood that belongs to Jesus who is yet to come?
Satan lied to Eve when he told Eve they can be as gods… not God. It was a lie then and it’s a lie now.
It would be interesting to see what the reaction would be if a Christian Pastor gave this McConkie speech.
I think that if a pastor attempted to start preaching such a thing, it’d be the last time he’d do it and I also doubt he’d get thru the whole thing because the congregation wouldn’t allow such things.
I totally agree. I’d be one of the first out the door. Another thing I was thinking…with Live Streaming and or taping services, keeps Pastors in check.
