2 Corinthians 10:3-5 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.”
We are told that this life is the time to prepare to meet God and that we should not procrastinate our repentance (see Alma 34:32–33).
Still, we are taught that in the spirit world the gospel is preached even to “the wicked and the disobedient who had rejected the truth” (Doctrine and Covenants 138:29) and that those taught there are capable of repentance in advance of the Final Judgment (see verses 31–34, 57–59).” — Dallin Oaks
Luke 4:21 “And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.”
Most believers have their own list of favorite scriptures, and Luke 4:21 is one of mine.
To put this in context, Jesus had just arrived in His hometown of Nazareth, and on the Sabbath He went to the synagogue.
As was the custom of the day, whoever volunteered to read from the scroll. stood up while doing so out of respect. Jesus chose to read Isaiah’s prophecy (Isaiah 61:1-2), declaring the day of their salvation had arrived!
Imagine the setting of that room being filled with the same men year after year, and hearing the same scripture preached year after year. Their shock must have been palpable, and I can’t help but put myself in the room when Jesus made His awesome declaration!
The wonder of the scene has captured my thoughts from the first time I read it more than 25 years ago.
Now imagine hearing the words of LDS apostle Dallin Oaks telling members their progress doesn’t end at death even though they don’t know anything about it. Furthermore, he had to explain their fullness of the gospel (BoM) declares there’s no chance at salvation after death, but another prophet contradicted what he said.
If you’re LDS, we pray you think about these things, and compare the Bible with the contradictions in the LDS gospel. Jesus loves you beyond measure, and wants for you to be saved beloved!
