Why Mormons Can’t Observe Pentecost

Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Journal of Discourses 1:51 “Now, remember from this time forth, and forever, that Jesus Christ was not begotten by the Holy Ghost. …if the Son was begotten by the Holy Ghost, it would be very dangerous to baptize and confirm females, and give the Holy Ghost to them, lest he should beget children.” — Brigham Young, Great Salt Lake City, April 9, 1852.

Doctrine and Covenants 130:22-23 “The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us. 23 A man may receive the Holy Ghost, and it may descend upon him and not tarry with him.” — Joseph Smith, Ramus, Illinois, April 2, 1843.

John 14:23 “Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.”

Today we’re looking at reasons why Mormons can’t celebrate Pentecost. If you’re unaware, Pentecost falls on Sunday, May 23rd this year!

To be honest here, I had never heard of the word Pentecost until after I left Mormonism which is probably true for many others as well. Coming out of Mormonism brings countless surprises – some more shocking than others.

Today’s reference from Brigham Young was one of the first things I came across after leaving the Church. While I knew the Church was wrong, it served as the first time I saw their ugly underbelly of heretical doctrines.

Adding insult to grievous injury we also have Smith’s explanation of the false god he introduced to the world. It’s interesting, and most likely not a coincidence, he used the word ‘tarry’ in righam Young

when describing one of the attributes of the Mormon Holy Ghost.

Looking at John 14:23 we see that Jesus used the word abode.

The transliteration for this is ‘monē’ which comes from the word ‘menō’ and it means ‘to tarry’. Jesus told believers the exact opposite of what Joseph Smith said.

Here’s how dictionary.com defines the word tarry –

‘to remain or stay, as in a place; sojourn…linger or loiter…to wait.’

Once again, the Church has lied about our Lord. It also shows the reason why Mormons can’t observe Pentecost. Their ‘holy ghost’ isn’t God.

While it’s still today, share the miraculous way God has ensured His presence would be with believers no matter where they live, or what they’re doing! 1 Corinthians 3:16 and 6:19 tells us that He takes up residence inside of us and we become His temple. Glory Halleluiah!

Lastly beloved, never forget to pray for those who are ensnared in the web of lies!

With Love in Christ —

Michelle
