General Conference Mixed Messages: Loving Others and Shunning

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. James 1:8

The recent General Conference proved to be a repeat of previous sessions filled with mixed messages throughout the weekend. Today we’re taking a quick look at three of those talks and comparing what they said to the Bible.

Listeners were told they take pride in how they’re an all-inclusive religion, but it’s the Church’s constitutional right to preach their god forbids them a true salvation.

  1. General Conference, ‘Following Jesus: Being a Peacemaker’, April 2022 “We, as Latter-day Saints, are “pleased to be part of a coalition of faith, business, LGBTQ people and community leaders who have worked together in a spirit of trust and mutual respect.” — Neil Andersen [emp. added]

Proverbs 19:9 “A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.”

First of all, the Church has made public announcements supporting the rights of others to make themselves look good. See Mr. Andersen’s talk where he noted their work in the Arizona Republic.

  1. General Conference, ‘Divine Love in the Father’s Plan’, April 2022 “I love you, my brothers and sisters. I love all of God’s children. …What I say here seeks to clarify how God’s love explains that doctrine and the Church’s inspired policies. …the Lord has required His restored Church to oppose social and legal pressures to retreat from His doctrine of marriage between a man and a woman, to oppose changes that homogenize the differences between men and women or confuse or alter gender.” — Dallin Oaks [emp. added]

Titus 3:9 “But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.”

The Church used their legal team to ensure they’re not violating any laws while invoking their religious right to believe what they want.

  1. General Conference, ‘Fear Not: Believe Only!’ April 2022 “To any of our youth out there who are struggling, whatever your concerns or difficulties, death by suicide is manifestly notthe answer. It will not relieve the pain you are feeling or that you think you are causing. In a world that so desperately needs all the light it can get, please do notminimize the eternal light God put in your soul before this world was. … Help is available, from others and especially from God. You are loved and valued and needed. We need you! “Fear not: believe only.”” — Jeffrey Holland [emp. added]

1 John 4:20 “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?”

Why would the Church need those whom they’ve denounced and can’t/won’t provide salvation?

We’ll be looking further into the talks of these three men because what they said earned a spot on our ‘Worst of the Worst Mormon Quotes’.

Please, pray for those who listened to their lies (my mother comes to mind) and for Jesus to intervene!

With Love in Christ —

Michelle
