Will the water of itself wash them away? No; but keeping the commandments of God will cleanse away the stain of sin.” — Brigham Young, Delivered in the Tabernacle, Great Salt Lake City, Oct. 23, 1853. [emp. added]
Romans 3:28 “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Hebrews 9:14 “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”
Revelation 1:5 “And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood”
The Christian hymn that asks ‘What can take away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus’ kept running through my head when I saw the LDS reference we’ve listed today.
Mr. Young was a fan of talking big. Sadly, however, his talks consisted of lies and our reference today is a good example. Our sins have stained our very life but when we accept Christ Jesus into our hearts that stain is taken care of through the precious blood, He spilt for us.
Brigham spewed out his lies 169 years ago and tragically LDS members are still buying into things like this every day they stay in the Church. There is no amount of good works that’d suffice to absolve us of our guilt. Remember what it says in Isaiah 64:6 that our works are as filthy rags.
While it’s still today share the awesome truth about Jesus’ spilt blood with a Mormon you know. We have an outline of the Romans Road on our site that’s a great way to introduce the gospel as well!
With Love in Christ —
