Journal of Discourses 13:144 “I have had many revelations proving to me that the Old and New Testaments are true. Their doctrines are comprised in the Gospel that we preach, which is the power of God unto salvation to all who believe.” — Brigham Young, delivered in the New Tabernacle, Salt Lake City, July 11, 1869.
Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
Brigham lied. Twice.
1.Ten years before he made the statement above, he declared the Bible alone can’t save. See Mormon Dilemma 269 for more info.
Furthermore, in 1853 he also stated that he doesn’t believe the stories in the Bible that his mother taught him as a child. See link above under Bible and Reasons to Leave.
2.The Church doesn’t preach the true gospel of the Bible hence the need for Joe Smith’s ‘restoration’.
I’ll always be amazed that they named a university after this guy.
In a loving manner ask the Mormon you know which of Brigham’s statements they believe. We pray daily for members to compare what their leaders say with what the Lord tells us in His word.
With Love in Christ —
Michelle
