Denying the Lord Jesus
While answering e-mails today I came across a passage of Mormon scripture in D&C 138:58-59 which says;
“The dead who repent will be redeemed, through obedience to the ordinances of the house of God, 59 And after they have paid the penalty of their transgressions, and are washed clean, shall receive a reward according to their works, for they are heirs of salvation.”
So my question today is this; what did the dead have to do to pay for the penalty of their transgressions and why did they have to pay for them when Jesus died on the cross to do this for them?
The Mormon people will tell you that Jesus’ atonement paved the way for them to have the opportunity to perform ordinances and live righteously while earning their way to salvation, which for them is godhood status.
There is no way I’d ever be able to pay the price for my sins. I know for a fact that whatever measly thing I could do for God pales in comparison to what He’s already done for me on Calvary. The scripture in Isaiah 64:6 keeps coming to mind;
“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”
The pain this causes my heart is immense and leaves me with no words to describe the desperate feeling I have within me for them. How I wish they’d see and open their hearts to Jesus instead of just using His name as a cover for their secret works they perform in a windowless temple.
Their actions are much like a disobedient willful child. They tell the parent what they want and need to hear, but the moment the kid walks out that door their actions tell a different story. Their lies and behavior are nothing than more than a denial that Jesus is their Christ, their God and their Savior.
