The Promise made to Abraham’s Seed … God commanded Abraham to leave Ur with his father and head for Haran which is located in northwestern Mesopotamia. In Abraham’s day Haran was a major caravan city serving as a resting point for traders coming from the north on their way to Palmyra, about 110 miles to the south of Haran. Abraham and family had already traveled through the God-forsaken city of Palmyra which housed the Temple of Bel, the patron god of Babylon.
