Families Essential to God’s Plan, but No Formal Revelation Originally Given

Ensign, “The Eternal Family,” Nov. 1996, p. 65; “Because of the importance of the family to the eternal plan of happiness, Satan makes a major effort to destroy the sanctity of the family, demean the importance of the role of men and women, encourage moral uncleanliness and violations of the sacred law of chastity, and to discourage parents from placing the bearing and rearing of children as one of their highest priorities.” – Robert D. Hales

Gospel Topics, ‘Mother in Heaven,’; “While there is no record of a formal revelation to Joseph Smith on this doctrine, some early Latter-day Saint women recalled that he personally taught them about a Mother in Heaven. 3” (data retrieved 11/23/15)

“3 Susa Young Gates, History of the Young Ladies’ Mutual Improvement Association of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints [Salt Lake City: Deseret News, 1911], 15–16; “Zina Diantha Huntington Young recalled that when her mother died in 1839, Joseph Smith consoled her by telling her that in heaven she would see her own mother again and become acquainted with her eternal Mother.”

Matthew 6:24; “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

Who, or what, is your god? Is your God the God of the Bible, or is it a god cloaked in feigned obedience to a ‘gospel ordinance’?

No matter the answer, how much emphasis is placed upon the edicts of your church? Is your time spent in temple worship less than, greater than, or equal to, the amount of time spent sincerely worshiping Jesus?

While it seems the questions we’ve listed above are all over the board, think about this:

If families really are forever, and a heavenly mother and father are the ultimate goal, from where did this prophecy originate?

How much time have you spent investigating the origin of the prophecies from where this ‘rule/doctrine’ came, outlining a mandatory work for salvation?

This particular doctrine is as fundamental to members of the Church, as the Book of Mormon itself.

Were you aware there’s no record of a formal revelation? How could there be a strong argument for eternal families if there’s no record of a revelation for a heavenly mother?

We agree 100% with Mr. Hales’ assessment of Satan’s plan to malign and destroy families. He works hard at giving false hopes derived from lies of who both men, and women, should be today. The Church seems to have found a niche in exploiting human emotions in making them believe ‘families are essential’.

This tragic lie has grown from Smith consoling one of his early followers, to the elevated status on the importance of families. Like God ‘needs’ anything from one of the creatures He created…
