Prayer Blueprint: LDS v. Jesus

Ensign, ‘How Can I Pray as the Savior Taught?’ October 2020 “When Christ visited the Nephites, He prayed with them 11 times.  Through word and example, He taught them how they should pray. Latter-day prophets, seers, and revelators continue to teach what the Savior taught about prayer. … Don’t multiply many words… “Our prayers should be simple, direct, and sincere.””

Luke 11:2-4 “And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. 3 Give us day by day our daily bread. 4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.”

An article on prayer in the latest Ensign caught my attention because my church just finished a 4-week study on the Lord’s prayer. Each week our pastor pointed out how it can be a blueprint for any prayer. For the sake of brevity, we’ve only listed a couple of the directives they listed in their article. To read it in full, see link above.

57 Words

There are several different things Jesus points out in His lesson on how to pray. To summarize, we first pay honor to Him, acknowledge His authority, thank Him for His provisions, ask for His protection, and to be forgiven.

The whole prayer is 57 words long, and can be modified to your personal life.

In light of all this, we’re asking Christians to pray for members in the Church to be diligent, and question the teachings of this Ensign lesson!

The image in their lesson is also bothersome with a woman who is folding her arms tightly. This is a sign of closing yourself off to the Lord. Telling people to keep their prayers short is a way to control how members behave, and how they should communicate with Jesus instead of pointing to Jesus’ method of how to pray.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
