Contradictions and Racism Reveal True Mormonism

Ensign, ‘Good Habits Develop Good Character’, November 1974, 20 “We are not born into this world with fixed habits. Neither do we inherit a noble character. … Confucius said that the nature of men is always the same. It is their habits that separate them. Good habits are not acquired simply by making good resolves, though the thought must precede the action. Good habits are developed in the workshop of our daily lives. It is not in the great moments of test and trial that character is built. That is only when it is displayed. The habits that direct our lives and form our character are fashioned in the often uneventful, commonplace routine of life. They are acquired by practice.” — Delbert L. Stapley

Matthew 15:14 “Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.”

Today we’re looking at a few comments from a talk given by LDS apostle, Delbert Stapley to compare them with the Bible. The reason for this is show how the Church has a history of contradicting itself, and will use outside resources of those they condemn if it serves their purpose.

Case in point is his quote from Confucius. Confucius may have said ‘things never change’, but why is this apostle quoting someone whom he wouldn’t allow into the Church?

Why didn’t he quote King Solomon who said ‘there is no new thing under the sun’? Ecclesiastes 1:9

As an FYI, Mr. Stapley was an apostle in the Church, and believed the 1964 Civil Rights Act was a ‘vicious legislation’ passed by the government. In 1964 he wrote a letter to Governor George Romney strongly encouraging him to disavow any support for it. For more info, see Stapley’s letter. It’s too bad Mr. Stapley didn’t take the advice of Confucius who also said, ‘To throw oneself into strange teachings is quite dangerous’.

Another contradiction in Stapley’s talk is when he stated ‘We are not born into this world with fixed habits. Neither do we inherit a noble character…’, but this contradicts a core doctrine of Mormonism that Children Cannot Sin. This sounds more biblical than Mormon.

Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned”.

Lastly beloved, he obviously ignored that ‘good habits are developed in the workshop of our daily lives’, and should’ve stuck with Paul’s tried, and true advice in Philippians 4:8

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

We can’t stress enough how important it is to share simple truths like this example with the Mormon you know. It’s a hard thing to accept that we’re born with a sin nature, and especially so if you’re LDS.

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
