LDS Gospel is Gospel of Works and Repentance

General Conference, ‘Welcome Message’, April 2021 “The gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of repentance. “Because of the Savior’s Atonement, His gospel provides an invitation to keep changing, growing and becoming more pure. It is a gospel of hope, of healing and of progress.” — Russell Nelson

Colossians 1:13-14 “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins”.

The talk given by Nelson was a remake of an article by Spencer Kimball from the Ensign in October 1982 – see The Gospel of Repentance for more info.

The Mormon gospel is laden with ordinances of works for salvation which includes repentance. They see this as yet another work, and not as a gift the Lord has provided because of His death on the cross for our sins. The beehives circling the podium speaks volumes for what this man was preaching.

Mr. Nelson left out the overall meaning of the word gospel which means good news. Check out a great definition below from GotQuestions.org!

“The word gospel means “good news,” so the gospel of Christ is the good news of His coming to provide forgiveness of sins for all who will believe (Colossians 1:14Romans 10:9).”

Mr. Nelson made it sound as if it was yet another work needed for man to be saved. Where’s the good news in that?

Furthermore, why did he have to use someone else’s talk from 39 years ago? If he was truly a prophet, wouldn’t he come up with his own thoughts, and provide hope for his followers?

Remember to pray for the Mormons who listened to this man’s uninspired message, and for Jesus to show them He is the way, the truth, and the life as it says in John 14:6!

With Love in Christ —
