The reason for this verse today is to show how the Mormon Church teaches Jesus shed His blood for our atonement in the Garden of Gethsemane during the time of His praying to the Father before the crucifixion.
By taking away the cross it’s easier to introduce other teachings which deifies man and brings God down to man’s level.
