June 21 – One verse out of context makes for disastrous theology. Luke 22:44; “And being in agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”

The reason for this verse today is to show you how the Mormon Church teaches Jesus shed His blood for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane during the time of His praying to the Father before the crucifixion.
Using one verse out of context has proven to confuse thousands, if not millions of Mormons. People like my own mother don’t believe Jesus died on the cross for sins, and instead they’re taught He paid for sins in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Removing the cross makes it easier to introduce other teachings which deifies man, and brings God down to man’s level.

“Why was it necessary for the Savior to shed His blood? His own answer to this interrogation is the best that could be given. Quoting His words to the Prophet Joseph Smith: ‘For behold, I, God have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer if they would repent. But if they would not repent, they must suffer even as I, which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore.” Gospel Through the Ages, p. 182.
