New and Everlasting Covenant Outlawed, Emma Damned?
52 And let mine handmaid, Emma Smith, receive all those that have been given unto my servant Joseph, and who are virtuous and pure before me; and those who are not pure, and have said they were pure, shall be destroyed, saith the Lord God. 54 And I command mine handmaid, Emma Smith, to abide and cleave unto my servant Joseph, and to none else. But if she will not abide this commandment she shall be destroyed, saith the Lord; for I am the Lord thy God, and will destroy her if she abide not in my law.”
Prophecy recorded on July 12, 1843. History of the Church 5:501-507.
This is the “prophecy” of polygamy. Polygamy was outlawed in 1890 through the Edmunds-Tucker Act. If they did not abide the law of multiple wives then they were going to be damned by God, if they did practice it then the state of Utah would lose their bid for statehood.
The mainstream Mormons are supposedly those living in a damned state as they’re not practicing polygamy today. The fundamental branch of Mormonism (FLDS) do practice polygamy and number around 30,000 today. This means the majority of Mormons won’t receive a true salvation in the Celestial Kingdom.
Secondly, Emma never liked Joseph’s wives. There are numerous accounts of Emma tossing Joseph’s concubines to the curb.
Third – the prophecy states Joseph would be strengthened. Joseph was dead a year later.
Fourth – Emma wasn’t destroyed as the threat promised she would be. In fact she went on to remarry and live in a monogamous relationship until she died in old age in 1879. Interestingly enough she married Lewis Bidamon on December 23rd, Joseph Smith’s birthday. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emma_Smith
