People Believed in Jesus in BC Era

Journal of Discourses 16:196 “…Christ, of whom we hear and read so much in the Scriptures of divine truth, was “the Lamb slain from before the foundation of the world.” He was believed in, long before he made his appearance, both on the Asiatic and American continent, and God gave unto his ancient Prophets many visions, manifestations and revelations of his coming to take away the sins of the world by the sacrifice of himself.” — John Taylor, Salt Lake City, September 7, 1873

Deuteronomy 18:15 “The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken”.

Luke 24:27 “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.”

The Mormon Church has made a business out of confusing members of its congregation, and our LDS reference today is a small example of how they’ve gone about doing this.

While the Bible is the story of God’s relationship with His creation from the beginning of time, it’s important we pay attention to details. It’s true, the gospel was given even to Abraham, but Abraham was never given the priesthood as the Church claims, nor did he know about Jesus Christ.

As you study God’s word you’ll find how He’s always offered a message of hope and salvation for mankind through sacrifices which was accomplished through the works of a priest.

The first time we see the word priest used wasn’t until Melchizedek offered sacrifices to God in Abraham’s presence — Genesis 14:18–20.

Abraham was given a message of redemption for mankind by the shedding of blood, otherwise known as a covenant, but at this time it was still a foreshadowing of what was to come. The priesthood spoken of in the Bible in its fullest sense of animal sacrifice, wasn’t instituted until the days of Moses — Exodus 25. Moreover, it goes without saying, people didn’t know about Jesus until He was born, c. BC 4-6.

LDS canon is obviously replete with anachronisms. Case in point is how the BoM uses the name of Jesus, and Jesus Christ as early as BC 600. You won’t find this in the Bible simply because no one knew Jesus’ name until God revealed it to Joseph when Mary was pregnant — Matthew 1:21.

It may seem Mr. Taylor’s words are inconsequential, however, what he said adds to the state of confusion Mormons still find themselves in on a daily basis. If you’re a Christian, please, take a few moments to share this precious truth with the Mormon you know!

Pray for Jesus’ intervention, and for Mormons to stop and think about what’s being said!

With Love in Christ;

Michelle
