Born Again Angels Were Mortals

Juvenile Instructor, Vol. 35, December 15, 1900, No. 24, p. 823 “Angels obeyed Gospel. We think angels are very holy beings. How did they become holy? How can they dwell in the presence of God? They have become holy through obeying that Gospel which is taught to us. Every child who obeys that Gospel can become an angel in character and disposition. There was a time when angels were mortal as we are, and they were tempted as we are. But they resisted temptation. By the aid of God’s Holy Spirit they conquered their evil inclinations. Matthew 22:30 “At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.”

1 Corinthians 6:3 “Do you not know that we are to judge angels to say nothing of ordinary matters?”

Hebrews 2:16 “For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.”

Oh my, today’s LDS reference is wrong on so many levels… Not only are the bible verses above great resources, but there’s also the classic Galatians 1:8 “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”

Our Lord has provided numerous reasons why Mr. Cannon was wrong. The dear Mormon people can apply this to Joe Smith’s supposed visits of men turned angels like Moroni.

Furthermore, how do you know if you’re going to be an angel, or a god/goddess someday? Oh what a tangled web we weave…Be sure to share this info with the Mormon you know, and don’t forget to pray!
