‘…upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.’ Matthew 16:18
The two women are Lisa Harkness, and Michelle Craig. To read their talks in full, see links in the article for each.
As a heads up, the numbering system we’ve used doesn’t reflect the order talks were given at the conference.
We’re praying our Christian friends will stop to pray for those who gave the talks, and those who heard their blasphemy. It’s obvious those in charge are just as confused as ever.
At the end, everyone must answer the question Whom Will You Follow? Will it be Jesus, or Joseph?
Talk #1
General Conference, ‘Honoring His Name,’ October 2019
Lisa Harkness, 1st Counselor in the Primary General Presidency
“Through the covenant of baptism, “we promised to always remember Him, keep His commandments, and serve others. Our willingness to keep this covenant is renewed each Sabbath day when we partake of the sacrament and rejoice once again in the blessing of ‘walking in newness of life’” (Romans 6:4).”
That one phrase ‘we promise to remember Him’ is near the top of my list for most incredulous Mormon phrases.
Why would a Christian have to be reminded to remember Jesus?
Secondly, being baptized isn’t a promise to serve others. Being baptized is an outward confession of your inner conviction/decision you’ve decided to follow Him.
Lastly, taking sacrament isn’t a time to renew a covenant.
Taking communion is a time set apart to remember and honor Him whose blood was spilt at Calvary. It’s a time to thank Him for what He’s done for you, not what you’ve done by getting baptized.
Share the truth about Communion with a Mormon and use demonstrative evidence to show why this is so! Luke 22:19-20 is a good place to begin.
Talk #2
General Conference, ‘Spiritual Capacity,’ October 2019
Michelle Craig, 1st Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency
“As you use your agency to carve out time every day to draw close to God’s voice, especially in the Book of Mormon, over time, His voice will become clearer and more familiar to you.”
Ms. Craig deliberately chose to discount God’s word in her seemingly benign statement. I wouldn’t have thought anything of her comment if I didn’t have the following experiences –
One day when missionaries knocked on my door, I decided to let them give me a little of their spiel, and then pointed out most of the verses they shared were in the Bible. Mind you, I also shared the verses surrounding the ones they used to discount the story they were trying to prove about Joe Smith’s 1st vision.
I asked the lead missionary which book he then believed – the Bible, or the BoM. He immediately told me he’d believe the BoM before he would the Bible. The level of mistrust for God’s word runs deep in the minds of most Mormons.
The next time missionaries showed up at my door I cut to the chase, and asked if they’d believe the Bible if those words were in the BoM as well. In the 3 times I did this, all of them told me the same thing. They wouldn’t believe the Bible, but they would the BoM.
The problem with Ms. Craig’s advice is seen in the numerous contradictions, anachronisms, and the endless plagiarisms. The majority of the BoM is discounted by simply pointing out that people (Nephites) can’t quote someone if they weren’t alive!
Pray she’ll stop to think about this major problem, and open her Bible instead of the BoM.
With Love in Christ;
Michelle
