2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
The majority of Mr. Uchtdorf’s talk followed the same theme of others at the April Conference, albeit, the ambiguity in a few of his comments made it impossible to ignore.
Mr. Uchtdorf was certainly aware of the Church’s strict guidelines on how they must pray, and the many changes they’ve made over the years concerning this issue. See Prayer Life of the Mormons for a small list of those rules.
In my 26+ years of ministry, I’ve not seen any leader of the Church pray scripture in the proper way. In fact, Mr. Nelson’s call of a worldwide fast for the pandemic, is a good example of this. He used no specific scriptures to cry out to God for help, nor did he call for a repentance of their idolatrous worship of another god.
Mr. Uchtdorf also told members, ‘If you desire to follow Him, gather your faith and take upon yourself His cross’. That sounds commendable, but how can they do this when they’ve rejected the cross?
The cross they supposedly carry is no cross at all, rather, it’s a torch for their founder, Joseph Smith. The narrative in this man’s talk speaks volumes of where they’ve placed their loyalty. All he’s done is parrot what those in charge said at the conference. Moreover, don’t forget that he needs our prayers, just as everyone in Mormonism does!
